The Barbara Jordan Academy for Girls (BJAG), a public policy and social justice school, grades K-8, will develop civic, social, community and national leaders who have a passion for learning, education, community service, and social justice to sustain the common good of all.
The Barbara Jordan Academy for Girls has been designed as a school that academically and socially prepares girls for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century. Drawing from a wealth of experience and research, we have found that many young girls “lose their way” during the formative years and become enveloped by socio-economic and environmental influences rather than focus on achieving at the apex of their true academic abilities. The goal of the Barbara Jordan Academy for Girls is to instill a sense of pride, a passion for learning, strong leadership and advocacy skills--characteristics that were embodied in the person for whom our school is named, Barbara C. Jordan. An American politician and progressive pioneer, Barbara C. Jordan, was a brilliant, courageous, and articulate visionary who was a staunch advocate for politically disenfranchised and marginalized communities.
It is in this vein that BJAG is prepared to answer the call--to empower young girls so that they are prepared to address the myriad of obstacles and take advantage of the global opportunities that lie before them.
